With the advancing digitization of research and teaching, the number of scientific software solutions is constantly increasing. In general, scientific software should be released as freely as possible on a trusted infrastructure, if there is no exploitation option. Adequate embargo periods may apply under certain conditions, such as termination of theses and publications, as well as maintaining competitive advantage. These guidelines are based on the recommendations formulated by the task force on Open Source licensing at CERN.
