Updates re. the leading organisation

EURAC has informed us that they will finally not be able to lead the proposal preparation due to lack of resources.

New brainstorming ideas

Raymond presented his brainstorming with Bjorn Backeberg - see the presentation below:

Comments on call text:

  • can be low TRL
  • new DT infrastructures
  • the platform should be able to scale out
  • ... see attached presentation

DiscussionAll

KK: We should try to see if interTwin results can help this vision.

XS: interTwin can bring the Digital Twin Engine, which will have been federated into some EuroHPC (Vega) / HPC systems (Juelich) + cloud

XS: we could expand FedEarthData (C-SCALE compute & Data federation to incorporate interTwin's EuroHPC & HPC systems ) + bring the DTE on top of it

CB: we still don't know exactly how the DE platform will look, we do know roughly how the DEDL will look like  - the existing DT use cases are quite computationally heavy and serve the goals of ECMWF mostly

XS: will try to bring Andrea Mangi to this call next time to discuss how we could incorporate results from interTwin in this proposal

EF: this cloud-HPC link in interTwin is done using Kubernetes, via a virtual Kubelet representing the HPC system

KK: We need to take into account that there will be a EuroHpc federation in place when this proposal starts

MS: there is a regional initiative for the Alpine region evolving (www.teamx-programme.org), we could explore if they could/would like to join this proposal

We need to establish some sort of connection with the DT of the Ocean.

KK: We should record just to acknowledge the state of the art.

RO: we see a gap in the scaling down of the DT, in the national and regional level - help researchers use the data on national resources afterwards

JD: we, in VITO, will discuss internally if we could be the lead

XS: we could also ask CMCC the other Climate-related DTs in interTwin (part of ENES community)

Actions

All: we need to find a proposal lead ASAP - please get in contact with potentially interested organisations from your network and report in the next meeting

All: process the concept presented by Raymond and add your comments, ideas, supporting capabilities etc.

Charis Chatzikyriakou : find an earlier time slot (13.00?) for this meeting and make weekly

  1. We have interest from UPC (Pere-Andreu Ubach <ubach@cimne.upc.edu>) who has indicated they are willing to lead the proposal in general and would contribute a Digital Twin of the Sediments Cycle. Modeling and monitoring all the processes which intervene in that cycle. From their generation by rock crushing (glaciers), rock and soil meteorization, land slides, soil erosion by rainfall, transport in rivers, river flood management (dams), sedimentation processes, human activities interacting with sediments (extraction), and coastal dynamics, including also the interaction with man made structures along the coast. The underlying idea is that sediments are the second most used ressource worldwide.

    1. Bjorn Backeberg, thank you! We discussed this today as well. Can you please let us know if/when you have news from UPC on this? I mean on their commitment.

      1. I'm chasing - will get back to you ASAP
