EGI Federation - Glossary of Terms

This FAQ is under development

Q1: Why a common glossary is needed for the EGI Federation?

A: The EGI Community is composed by a large number of heterogenous actors who contribute to providing or consuming services for research and innovation. Policy makers produce policies and procedures that govern the EGI processes; dissemination experts write articles for communicating the progress and results in using or evolving EGI; end-users write papers on research results achieved through the infrastructure; technology providers report on the advancement of technology components that enable EGI to operate and so on. From many parties, it has been often expressed the need to identify a common set of terms which definition is agreed and shared so to improve the understanding and consistency of documents. The goal of the EGI Glossary is to address this problem by identifying and maintaining a shared set of terms across all the functional areas of EGI in order to enable a consistent understanding and usage within a well-defined scope.

Q2: How can I suggest changes to existing terms?

A: You can add a comment in the page where the term is defined

Q3: How can I suggest a new term?

A: You can add a comment in the page Change Requests to Glossary specifying the term, the proposed definition, the source of the definition and why this is relevant for the EGI Federation glossary. Send a notification to the #help-glossary slack channel

Q4: Who approve the terms?

A: Most of the terms are taken by the FitSM standard (see FitSM-0) or by other standard documents. It is our care to align to the latest version of the standard when available. Terms that are defined within the EGI Federation, are evaluated by the EGI Foundation and changes agreed by consensus. Requests for changes are recorded for transparency, together with the outcome of the evaluation.

Q5: Who should I contact for more information about this glossary?

A: Sergio Andreozzi, EGI Foundation
